The islands

From Cau Da pier, boats can be taken to the islands in Nha Trang Bay. Prices vary according to the number of passengers.

These islands are sometimes known as the Salangane islands after the sea swallows that nest here in such profusion. The sea swallow (yen in Vietnamese) produces the highly prized bird’s nest from which the famous soup is made (see box, see here).

On Mieu Island you can relax on a beach away from the hubbub of Nha Trang and visit a laid back village. Another popular nearby island is Hon Mun. The best part is anchoring offshore and jumping into the cool water to snorkel.

Hon Tre Island is now taken over by the Vinpearl Land amusement park 500,000d, www.vinpearlland.com. The island can be reached by cable car or boat and the entry fee includes access to a huge water park with around 20 slides and a massive wave pool. There are also plenty of fairground rides and other kid-friendly attractions. A fun family day out.
